Baroque Blazer

Here is an 'item of the day' if you will, rather than a whole outfit! I went to a 50th party on Sunday and this is what I wore, I would class it as smart casual?! Pretty but not too dressy. I hooked this little bargainous baby when I was away in a spanish Zara for only 20euros, money well spent I'd say to get a bit of wear out of it before the end of the summer season.

2013 MTV VMA's Highlights Review

So last night was the MTV Video Music Awards and to say there was plenty of drama and controversy would be quite the understatement! I watched the Red Carpet and Pre-Show streams before the actual awards started to see what everyone was wearing and to see a few of the performances (Ariana Grande was very cute).

The Awards show was opened by Lady Gaga performing her new single "Applause", which obviously as a huge fan I was very excited about! The performance consisted of her showing herself in four different eras from the Fame eras to the new Artpop era, with her various iconic wigs and outfits. I'd say her performance was slightly more toned down than at previous shows however it was still gripping and entertaining as usual! Gaga also made a point at the beginning of her performance by adding boos to highlight the fact that she has had a difficult time with the media and particularly the fans in the past few months as there has been a delay with new music etc but she was willing to take it on the chin and move past it by putting out an amazing performance.

Just Dance, Applause, Telephone

The second lot of artists to take the stage were One Direction to present "Best Pop Video". Now I'm a big fan of the "reaction cams" at the MTV Awards ceremonies and an even bigger fan of when they catch another celebrity or artist badmouthing the act that are on stage. At this particular time when One Direction were introducing the award and announcing the nominees, a reaction cam was pointed at Taylor Swift and captured her saying "Shut the Fuck Up" while the boys, in particular Harry Styles, were speaking. All I can say is when there's cameras pointed at you from every angle and you have a following of impressionable teenage fans, you should probably watch your mouth and continue to enjoy the wrath of millions of doting 1D fans! I mean, MTV's official Tumblr page created a gif of you saying it girl!

S0ULNINETIES officially declares you a hater T-SWIVEL
Moving swiftly on (no pun intended), the next performance was from Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke and 2 Chainz. Now Miley's taken on her new "grown up" and "risque" appearance, she has vastly changed her performance style and is making quite the rebel out of herself. First point, she has now decided she is not friends with clothing and will wear the smallest things that she can.. second point, she is suddenly the proclaimed queen of twerking? I don't think so honey! No, to be fair I do enjoy the new style she has taken on but in terms of grinding against Robin Thicke when there are still young girls who look up to her, despite her not being on disney anymore, she could probably tone it down. I know she has taken a step away from the tween scene but a lot of people still look at her as a role model, but how she shows that is up to her and kudos to enjoying her 20's and making a performance that will be remembered! I enjoyed the mix up of 'We Can't Stop', 'Blurred Lines' and 'Give It To You' and think performances genuinely work better and attract more attention when there is a variety of music genres and elements.

I'm sure Robin is enjoying himself!

My personal favourite reaction shot from the Smith family watching Miley
After more awards, and some more Taylor Swift attention-seeking, came the time for Justin Timberlake to perform and accept his moon man for the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award.
Jimmy Fallon rightly introduces him as the 'President of Pop' before he takes the stage with the biggest medley of all his best hits and also a segment with the rest of N'SYNC with was obviously the biggest crowd pleaser! The reaction cams showed everyone on their feet dancing through the whole performance and when it was time for him to accept the award he was thoroughly genuine and modest and he looked amazed and grateful for the response he was getting from the audience and all the other artists. It's an exciting thing to think Justin has come so far yet he's got so much left to show for himself and the 20/20 experience is just the beginning!

Reunited and it feels so good!

I hope you've enjoyed my review/critique of the highlights of the VMA's, I enjoyed watching it and will probably be talking about the main performances for the rest of the week!

More celeb gossip posts to come..

The Pros and Cons of Acrylic Nails

So for a little b'day pampering, I treated myself to a set of acrylic oval/pointed nails at my local "Perfect Nails" (classic name). Being not much of a girly girl, I very very rarely get my nails done or anything like that so these things happen once in a blue moon for an occasion or birthday. I decided to follow the trend of the oval/stiletto/pointed nail shape, as seen on Gaga and Lana Del Rey, and the little chinese lady got them exactly how I wanted! They're not too pointed or sharp but have the slightly elongated oval shape, so I don't injure myself or others...

I'm always a moaner on the first day of having longer nails, you can't undo your buttons or pick anything up without a struggle.. and don't even bother trying to type on your touchscreen phone with them, let alone a computer keyboard. Anyway, you get used to manoeuvring differently with them the longer you've had them on and you learn to do things with the pads of your fingers rather than your actual nail.

The main thing is, they look pretty, you feel more polished and girly, and you have the confidence that your life has some kind of structure when you have the time to have a little self indulgence in the form of beauty and personal appearance!

Music Picks of the Week..

My music tastes are extremely varied and change by the day, so I thought I would share what I'm listening to the most this week! I work in an office doing design and I find that having my headphones in helps me to "get in the zone" and concentrate on my work and creativity so here we go..

Marina has just released Part 11 of the Electra Heart series and the music for the last video is dramatic and moody and who doesn't love to pretend they're in a music video to that shit? I enjoy the broken down style with cut up vocals..

Next choice goes on a slight genre tangent, American Girl by Bonnie Mckee! Pop-tastic, fun, girly and summery! I feel it has the Carly Rae Jepsen "Call Me Maybe" effect and it will be played everywhere in no time. As far as I know Bonnie is a new artist, taking the wannabe hipster slant,  and the song is already pretty popular across the pond. I wish I could say that I was an American girl..

Third song pick, quite obvious really, Gaga APPPLLAAAAAUUUUUUSEEEEE.
Don't think I have to say much more do I.  I absolutely adore the song and can't wait for more.

Last but not least, I've been loving AlunaGeorge's first album Body Music this week. I like all of the songs on the album, particularly Bad Idea and also their cover of This Is How We Do It.  Lots of sweet beats and chilled vibes..

LADY GAGA IS SO OVER

Just to completely reiterate my previous post..

"Lady GaGa is no longer relevant" - Yep I have seen so called fans saying this,
DO YOU THINK BLACK JESUS GIVES A SHIT?
Patience, my dear friends, is a virtue.

When GaGa resurfaces, the real me emerges..

ARTPOP has been due for a long time coming, and unfortunately some impatient fools can't wait for a release date and have to leak GaGa's music for attention.  A demo of Burqa/Aura was leaked a few days ago and then snippets of Applause were spilling out so after some obviously irritated tweets from the queen herself, "Applause" the first single from Artpop was released today on iTunes worldwide.

Plenty of Katy Perry fans had a penny to put in saying that Lady Gaga purposely released the song on the day that Katy had released 'Roar'. To be quite honest with you, I doubt Gaga even knows what day  of the week it is and she was practically forced to release the song seeing as it was pretty much all over the internet already and her countdown was ruined.. I don't blame her and I think the "Monsters" that turned against Gaga for "stealing Katy's day" are absolutely vile and Katy fans would be buying "Roar" regardless of what Gaga would be doing and the number 1's on iTunes proved that. All I can say is after complaining about how long you've had to wait.. you should be jumping for joy that she released it early.. okay? Rant over, Thanks.

Anyway, not to put a negative spin on things but I can honestly say I've always stayed loyal to 'mother monster' and never lost faith that she would come back with amazing music! So excited to hear the rest of Artpop and to see the App... this is pretty much my reaction vid for applause

Quick Rainy OOTD

I've been working full-time in the week throughout summer so I opt for comfort rather than anything too fashionable and this was a comfy and warm option for today seeing as it was damp, cold and rainy (feck you England).

Playsuit: Urban Outfitters Sparkle & Fade
Oversized Jumper: Zara (bargain 8 euros woo)
Sheer Tights: Tesco or some shit.

Meet my new baby Bruce!

Last weekend, I decided it was time to get myself a new little baby to look after so I dragged my mum to my favey pet shop and picked up this little guy ... Brucey Bear! He's a male Syrian hamster and he is probably the cutest coloured hammy I have seen and his face is beyond adorbs. When I first got him home he'd almost chewed through the cardboard box he came in so I put him down into his cage and oh what an escape artist he is.. straight away clambering up the sides to get out of the cage much to my amusement. He wasn't very shy at first at all and took to climbing on my hands without biting or being very scared. It took a few hours for him to get settled once I sorted his bedding but he soon found his way around and now I can't get him out of his little house where he sleeps! I'd say he's still getting used to me and it takes him a few minutes to wake up and want to come out to play but after that he's really good and I can lift him out of his cage to hold and cuddle hehe!

So excited to have a new little pal and I'm excited for our friendship to grow!

(However if he continues to wake me up at 2am he will be moving out of my bedroom fo' shiz)

xoxoxoxo

He stands up like a meerkat!

First night I had him home he slept in his food bowl <3

Playing in his ball (he forgets how to use it sometimes and just plonks his bum on the bottom)

Exploring on my bed

Mini MUA One Direction Makeup Review

As you may know, One Direction recently released a makeup line "Little Things" for Makeup Academy in Superdrug. The collection is made up of five lipsticks, five lip balms, five nail varnishes (one for each member, duh) and also three cheek tints. Being a One Direction fan (*cough* Harry Styles Fan *cough*)  myself, I thought I would try one of the products to see what the quality was like.

Most of the colours are girly and light pinks and purples, obviously being aimed at the young teen audience targeting what girls age 10-14 are most likely to wear. I decided to buy one of the Kiss You lipsticks in "Be Mine" which is the shade with Harry's signature inside the lid and the colour closest to what I would wear. The "bullet" style container is very cutely designed and I enjoy the signature inside which reflects what MAC Cosmetics usually do when they have a celebrity endorsed collection, making the makeup seem all the more high end (being only £3.. it is a very cheap product!!).

The lipstick itself has the 1D logo on the top, until you apply for the first time, and little X and O's down the sides.. nice touch MUA! It is nice and creamy to apply and feels suprisingly moisturising and I wouldn't say it would dry your lips out after a few hours wear. I would probably recommend using lipliner to outline your lips before wearing this as it feels likely to smudge easily due to it being so creamy but aside from that, a really nice lipstick for such a bargainous price!

I think the next time I'm in Superdrug I will swatch the cheek tints and see what they're like and maybe pick up one of the nail varnishes to test out aswell (I've got my eye on the Zayn colour) .. that is when the shelves are no longer wiped and the fangirls have calmed down a bit!

Overall, I definitely recommend trying a One Direction lipstick, no loss to your purse really and genuinely a really cute little product.. I mean who doesn't want to fantasise about Harry Styles picking out a lipstick for you.. and it being called "Be Mine" ahhh keep daydreaming Kirsty..

The lipstick looks slightly pink on this picture (crap iPhone) but it applies a nice bright red.

Girl Problem #52

I don't know if it's the same with other girls but.. I just can't think of anything worse than the effort of having to wash my hair! It's the most time consuming thing ever! Don't get me wrong, I shower every day like the rest of us but when it comes to having to take my hair down to wash it, I just don't want to do it! I wouldn't say I have the longest hair either.. just the process of having to shampoo and brush it (which hurts.. a lot) and then drying and styling, ugh! I still have to endure the routine every 2 or 3 days but within that time I'm quite happy having hobo hurrrrr

Dreadfully messy & untameable, side slung hair seems to be the way forward..

Sabrina the Teenage Witch!

Whilst I was on holiday having a gander at the channels on the tv.. I came across PopGirl which I think is a new channel for pre-teens and to my surprise and excitement they were showing re-runs of Sabrina the Teenage Witch!! I haven't watched this show for so many years and considering it used to be one of my faves as a girl I was quite happy to take a few breaks from sunbathing to come inside and cool off and watch Sabrina, Harvey, Salem, Hilda & Zelda.

Of course upon my arrival home, I downloaded all 7 seasons to re-watch and I can't wait to start, yay!

Holiday Haul & Photos!

Hi guuuuuuuys! Back from my 2 week Vacay with the family and thought I would do a small recap slash mini haul?! for you..

A bit about where I went, I have been going to Corralejo, Fuerteventura (Canary Islands) with my parents since "you were in your mummy's tummy" and from before I was born up until recent years we have been on a family holiday there every year and only the past few years my parents have decided to venture out slightly.. Greece/France/New York etc so the last time I was in Fuerte was 3 years ago before this time! I have to say it was nice to be back for probably the last time as I won't be really going on family holidays now I'm turning 20 and will be doing my own things so it was nice to visit and spend time there for a last family holiday kinda thang.

My sisters best friend came along with us this year which was really nice and gave me and my sister someone to interact with other than each other (harhar). We had a really nice villa to stay with it's own pool which is better when you're at the high end of your teens due to tolerance for small children in a public pool screaming and splashing around you being very low. So yeah, nice and secluded and only short walks to shopping centres and the main town strip and beaches which is ideal.

Demi, my sister Sarah and I on the first night, not too pale considering only one day of sunbathing under our belts
I was extremely delighted to find that the shopping centres had vastly improved since 3 years prior and I was able to find a few decent shops including Zara (which we all know and love), Womens Secret & Natura, which I think are maybe just Spanish brands?? Who knows but they're pretty good! I've put together a picture collage of a few bits and pieces I bought, clothes items I will probably put in another post with photos of me wearing them so you can see better!

From top left; Silver Om Necklace from the local market €17
Navy/White Baroque Blazer from Zara €20 (bargain yeyur)
Tea Time Jewelery Tin from Natura €15
Clear Chain Bag from Zara €15
LifeProof Iphone4 Case from Surf Shop €50 (another bargain)
Skull Head (which now holds my rings) from Souvenir Shop €3

I find that it's more enjoyable to treat yourself on holiday for the range of different shops that you aren't used to and you can find a few cute gems like the little skull head I found in a souvenir shop, if anyone knows me well they will tell you I am a fiend with anything with skulls on it and the collection in my room is ever-growing so I thought this was a perfect fit for my rings or earrings.

I had also planned on buying a Life Proof case for my iPhone before the holiday as they have been reviewed a lot for their waterproof/snowproof/dirtproof/shockproof features and I wanted to be able to take pictures in the pool and while snorkelling in the sea so when I found this happy chappy in one of the surf shops in Fuerteventura for just over 50 I was so excited and bought it straight away! I'll show you some of the outcomes that I was really impressed with aaaaand I hope you've enjoyed reading this holiday post!
