Weekend Music Picks

It's the end of the weekend and I thought I'd share with you what I've been listening to the most in my spare time! I don't really like to post these kind of 'favourites' often because when it comes to music tastes, people are defensive & protective of what they like and what they think other people should like or sometimes just closed-minded, buy hey it's my freakin' blog and I'll post whatever the hell I'd like..

The three albums I have chosen are by people who've been around since the beginning of summer-time (ish) 2013 but have just released debut albums last month. I'm not really going to say much about them other than what I like and some of my favourite songs from the albums as I know that the Jury will make their own decisions!...

Vine: A New Addiction

I'm the type of person who will find an App for my iPad or iPhone and be addicted to it for the rest of eternity.. a recent favourite being Vine. There is nothing I love more in life than finding a hilarious video that makes your day when you watch it and keeps you laughing for a long time and Vine is exactly my source for that kind of thing!

I find very stupid and silly things the most comical to watch, especially home videos which is what Vine is mostly made up of.. also painfully cute puppy videos which seem to circulate a lot on the popular pages, Beau and Dexter the Dachsund being my faves!

Anyway, just a quick post to show you some of my all time favourites..

Autumn Red Nails

It is now the time of year when the only colour I want to paint on my nails is Red! Any shade will do, I just think it is one of the few colours that looks feminine and pretty with any outfit especially a bright classic red like this Rimmel Salon Pro colour I recently purchased. It is from the Kate Moss line called "Rock n Roll", I featured this in my september favourites video as it's one of my new favourites and I've been wearing the colour on repeat for about 2 weeks now!

My routine for getting the most wear out of this varnish is to use a base and top coat with it. My favourite base coat is the Collection 2 in 1 Base Coat & Ridge Filler which creates such a nice smooth surface to paint on with just one coat. This also helps to fill in any cracks or ridges in your nails.. doing what it says on the bottle really! I then apply two coats of the Salon Pro nail varnish, letting it settle for a few minutes before I apply the top coat. The top coat is also a recent purchase and it is the Rimmel 3D Plumping Top Coat which is meant to give a gel-like finish that makes your nails look nice and rounded and plump. This applies quite easily however you have to be careful how thick you coat it on and a little goes quite a long way. I find that this top coat does give a plumping finish and makes your nails super shiny and like they're still wet, however thus making it difficult to tell when they're actually dry so you have to spend a good half hour or so waiting for them to dry. I also find that this varnish bubbles quite easily and will smudge if you knock them with something even when they feel to be dry, but if you have the patience to sit still (which I don't most of the time) you will get a nice finish and pretty plumpish nails.

I've taken a few pictures of the products and how they look on my nails. I personally have extremely shit nails and definitely not the best to be showcasing how a nail varnish looks but you can get the gist and see how they look shiny and raised. The colour does look darker than these pictures in real life as my bright bedroom lights are making them look more orangey in the photos. September Favourites

October is now upon us so of course it's the time for a months worth of favourites. I originally wanted to do a collective haul of everything I bought throughout september (it was a lot) but to be honest I've lost track of some of the things I've bought and obviously some of it would not be relevant or interesting at all! So what I've done is chosen a couple of things from each category eg clothing, beauty & some miscellany relating to halloween! Without further ado..

First item of clothing is this Boucle style cardigan from Asos. It's so soft and cosy, and although it's isn't the thickest of materials, I think I'll be wearing it a lot under coats and jackets for Autumn and I've been making the most of wearing it by itself before it gets too too cold.

The second item is my most favourite purchase of September and it's my "Mohair Jewel Green Boyfriend" coat from Topshop. It's really oversized and slouchy and I absolutely adore the colour - I think it will be a winter staple and I won't be taking it off until next year! If you're thinking of getting one of the oversized boyfriend style coats I would say go a size down because they've been really generous with the sizing and even though I bought a 10, I still have room for jumpers and layers underneath!

My next few favourites for the month are revolved around gold jewellery. I've always been more of a silver girl but I think this year I've completed swapped over to the gold side, I like a lot of chunky gold chains and big earrings to complete any outfit. The majority of my recent favourites are from New Look which has some really nice jewellery at the moment.

The first piece is a pair of chain hooped earrings which I think look really nice with my new hair and I have been going back to my 12 year old chavvy stage with the big hoops! The necklace in the first picture is actually from Primark in a "Make Your Own" necklace set, so naturally I chose the word 'HUN' to hang around my neck (cringey or cute, I don't really know!).

The second and third items are also from New Look. As mentioned in previous posts, I really like midi rings and thought this snake was really cute and different to the usual simple bands that are the form that most midi rings come in. The necklace was shown in my University OOTD post and I've worn it pretty much every day this week. I think it looks really nice underneath a shirt collar and just makes an outfit look more finished and dressy.

New Look & Primark

My beauty/makeup favourites for the month come in quite a random selection. My first is the Miracle Complexion Sponge by Real Techniques. I'm a big fan of Sam & Nic Chapman, following them on Youtube and via TWO magazine etc, and an even bigger fan of their makeup brushes. They're so well made and soft and the range to choose from is better than any I've tried before. I currently own the Powder Brush, Blush Brush, Expert Face Brush, Stippling Brush and now the Complexion Sponge.

This sponge is so much nicer and a better quality than sponges I used to use when I was younger, have veered off them for a while, and it applies foundation like a lovely little egg shaped charm. The flat and rounded sides are good for applying different products but mostly I've just been using it to apply my foundation in the morning as it's so quick and easy! So a definite recommendation here!

The second makeup product is the Bourjois 'Rose Mandarine' Number 39 Blush. I tend to stay away from these as I find that they are so so difficult to pick up on a makeup brush, it isn't the most pigmented of blushers so I've never really bothered however a few months ago Boots had an offer on Bourjois to get a blusher free when you spent so much, and I was already buying foundation so I chose this colour as my freebie. I left it untouched for a while but then I decided I wouldn't be defeated by it and took my expert face brush and just pressed and swirled it into the blusher quite firmly and it picked up enough colour to make a nice blush on my cheeks. The colour actually works really well with my bronzer and is a bit more toned down than a reddy/pinky colour that I might usually use. I've found that this past week I've wanted to use this colour more and as my tans fading, it keeps it looking a bit more glowy than a pinkish colour!

The third (and fourth, kind of) beauty picks are these nail varnishes. I really like Kate Moss' range in Rimmel, especially the lipsticks, and I had yet to try a nail varnish so I picked up the colour "Rock 'n' Roll" which is a nice bright red. I usually only go for red or black on my nails and this shade is a bit brighter than the ones I already have so it's a nice one to add to the bunch.

I also got this 2 in 1 Base Coat by Collection. It is said to be a 'ridge filler' and smoother, which I desperately needed as my nails have still been a bit worn and uneven from having acrylics and this base coat really does the trick. You only need to apply one coat before your colour and it makes a perfect smooth base and any bumps or cracks in your nails go unnoticeable. I'm really impressed with this product and I'll keep using it until my nails are fully repaired.

My last selections for the month are all HALLOWEEN related! I know it's not technically a september favourite as all the halloween goodies start to appear at the beginning of October but I did still buy some of these things at the end of last month.

My favourite halloween decoration so far has to be this holographic photo frame from Asda. It was such a little bargain of £2 (it is only thin plastic) and it's just a cute little thing to have around the month of October, a little spook here and there. The photo is of a Bride & Groom and when you turn it to the side, which you can see here, the characters turn into skeletons! I absolutely love things like this, Halloween is my top favourite holiday and I just love looking at all the decorations and costumes and titbits to have around the house!

My second favourite Autumn/Halloween/October themed item is this Yankee Candle. The scent is 'Spiced Orange' and it smells really tangy and sweet, just a nice smell to have burning in the corner of your room for a cosy night-in! Here he sits with another of my skeleton friends on the window-sill.

My very last favourite is my iPad Mini. I've had this badboy since my birthday in August and at first I didn't particularly use it that much but now I can't be without it! I use it for social media, games & videos every night when I'm cosying in bed or watching the tele and my favourite game at the moment is The Simpsons Tapped Out. I have been playing this since Christmas last year, and if you ask any of my close friends they will tell you I'm obsessed with it and I don't think I've gone more than 2 days this year without playing it, saddo. I particularly love it at the moment as it has just changed to the Halloween theme and all the ghouls are flying around my little Springfield!

Hope you liked this post, more reviews and Halloween Hauls to come..

Recent Hair Spontaneity

In the most recent weeks/month, I've chosen to be somewhat spontaneous with my hair. Being a 20 year old female, my hair is one of my most important features (I feel) and I've always played it quite safe however I wanted to do something different with it so I did just that. For probably 3-5 years now my hair had always been very long, about waist/hip length, and my usual darkest brown colour.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to book in with a new hairdresser, which is unusual for me as I like to stick with who I know, and got a seemingly huge amount of my hair cut off - going from almost hip length to shoulder length. Something very drastic for me I must say!

Today I decided to go another step further, I'd made one big change why not another, and bleach all my hair and then dye it an Auburn/Copper colour. I think the short style and a new colour was something I needed to do and I think the change is good! Every once in a while, I think it's needed to make a bit of a change and do something you might be scared to do :)

Selfies.. Enjoy..

I've got into the bad habit of taking traffic selfies #sorrynotsorry

And a smile.. for those of you sick of my pouty pout

This or That Tag

So it appears I have been tagged by my sister Sarah Stylize to do the this or that tag! I think all the questions are mostly beauty/fashion related, so here we go..

Make-up:

Blusher or Bronzer?

I would definitely say bronzer, I'm not overly fussy about blusher and I don't wear it every day but I am all about the contour recently so it's a part of my daily makeup routine. I currently use the Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder which has been a favourite since high school.

Lipgloss or Lipstick?

Lipstick! I can safely say I haven't touched lipgloss since I was probably about 8! I much prefer a good lipstick selection and I tend to wear dark red lips quite often.

Eyeliner or mascara?

I wear both every day, but if I had to choose I would stick with mascara and use an eyeshadow as a liner!

Foundation or Concealer?

I would choose foundation.. my skin is quite clear at the moment so I haven't been using much concealer.

Brush or Sponge?

I would choose a makeup brush over a sponge. I am obsessed with the Real Techniques brush line and use them for all aspects of my makeup really.

Nails:

OPI or China Glaze?

I can't say I have dipped into the world of China Glaze yet though I've seen a few colours on other blogs that I liked the look of. I have a few OPI nail varnishes and they're good, so OPI!

Long or Short?

My nails always have been and always will be short.

Acrylic or Natural?

Acrylic nails are a treat for me, I will get them occasionally but mostly I prefer to paint my own nails.

Bright or Dark?

Dark. Black. I hardly wear anything bright or nice hahah

Flower or no Flower?

Don't mind a bit of nail art, if someone wants to come and paint me a flower?

Body:

Perfume or Body Spray?

Perfume.

Lotion or Body Butter?

Soap and Glory Body Butter

Body Wash or Soap?

Soap and Glory Body Wash! haha

Lush or Other?

Yes, Lush is the one!

Fashion:

Jeans or Joggers?

Hate to say it but if I can choose, I will choose joggers

Long Sleeves or Short Sleeves?

Depends on the weather, my darling

Dress or Skirt?

I'm not really a girly girl, but I am more inclined to wear skirts.

Scarves or Hats?

Scarves, definitely scarves. My collection is ever-growing.

Studs or Dangly Earrings?

Mostly studs.

Necklace or Bracelet?

I wear a lot of necklaces, most of the time I'll forget about bracelets.

Heels or Flats?

I do love a good pair of heels, they make me feel nice! But flats..

Cowboy boots or riding boots?

Neither, thanks.

Jackets or hoodies?

Jackets probably.

Forever 21 or Charlotte Russe?

Forever 21 (what the fuck is Charlotte Russe)

Hair:

Straight or Curly?

My hair is naturally straight but I do anything I can for it to be curly/waved.

Bun or Ponytail?

My ponytail is so short at the moment so it's more likely to be in a messy bun.

Bobby pins or butterfly clips?

Bobbies

Hairspray or Gel?

Hairspray

Long or Short?

Have to say short at the minute.. I will be waiting for a while for my hair to be considered long again!

Dark or Light?

Dark.

Side bangs or full bangs?

I try to pluck up the courage every day to get a proper full fringe. All I want is to be Zooey Deschanel.

Up or Down?

I think Up, I get too annoyed with it down!

Done! Something different for my blog I guess! I don't really have "blog" friends as such so I will tag my one gal pal who uses blogger LipstickLoverr

Hope this was fun to read!

The Long-Awaited Return of New Girl

After what seems like the longest summer hiatus (4 months I believe!?), Season 3 of New Girl finally premieres tonight!! I have been a religious viewer of this show since day 1 and I have been dedicated for the most anticipated episodes of each season to stay up til 2am to watch it from a live stream (ha ha obsessed fangirl).  I genuinely have enjoyed every single episode and the humour is exactly to my taste and I have grown to love all the characters very dearly (again.. obsessed fangirl).

All I can say is, I am most excited for cute Nick and Jess scenes after an amazing end to Season 2.. however preparing myself for what could be a Ross and Rachael type storyline! Also excited to see what happens with Schmidt and his love triangle, however I think we all side for Cece..

'Ness' Appreciation.. is it 2am yet?

Fancy Phones

I'm one of those people who always carries their phone everywhere and likes to swap up cases a lot, so naturally I have a collection of cases and stickers for my iPhone 4S. I've found that recently, high street shops carry a much wider collection of cases than they used to and they're a lot more creative and fun!

H&M, Urban Outfitters & Topshop have a really good collection of cases and I'm always spoilt for choice when it comes to picking a new case! I've picked up a few new cases/vinyl stickers recently and thought I would show them as they're so decorative and styyyyyyylish!

My first pick is this brass 'knuckle duster' style case which is hard plastic that clips around the frame of the phone so that you can see through to the front screen and back of the phone. I had seen this style of case on eBay before and then came across it in a souvenir shop in London and decided to buy it. I think Rihanna was seen with one of these copies and from what I've heard they're a dupe of a more expensive case, it might be Marc Jacobs? Not entirely sure but I think it's something different and fun, also making your phone easier to carry!

My second picks are these holographic vinyl stickers from H&M! I think the Black Panther and Snake Skin designs are really cool and look so interesting when you turn your phone and the image moves. They're so easy to fit onto your phone, they line up really easily and as they're vinyl you can pull them up and reposition them if needed and they won't leave any residue on your phone! H&M do quite a few designs in the holographic stickers, from what I saw they were only really for iPhone 4 however I'm sure with iPhone 5 being about more they'll be others to buy elsewhere for different models.

My last choice is a silicone 3D case from H&M (they're really on a roll with phone accessories)! I love anything with skulls on it and this case was a present from a friend and I think it looks really cool on my phone. The white detail of the skull is raised off the case which creates a 3D look without protruding to the point you can't hold your phone properly! H&M have a really big selection of silicone cases, some with ears and wings etc that just make your phone stand out as opposed to having a flat 2D plastic case.. it really was difficult to make my pick out of all the cases!

I shoes you

As you may know, I have been on the hunt for the perfect Jeffrey Campbell Coltrane Boot "dupes" for quite some time! I have searched high and low, online and in shops to find the most similar pair and I don't think any have come as close as the new River Island 'Chunky Buckle Cut Out Boots'. I was made aware of these new replicas (you might call them) by a friend and instantly had to buy them. Elle Magazine was doing a 25% off card at the time so I was able to get a discount on them online with a few other purchases and when they were delivered I fell in love with them!

There are some differences with the shoes, obviously, for example the buckles aren't silver and they're quite a different shape and style however the standard shape and structure of the shoe is identical and I'm really happy with them! They're so comfortable considering how chunky they are and the zip at the back isn't stiff so it doesn't rub at all. I think these shoes will be my winter staple and I'll be wearing them til their death!

Miranda Sings in London

Last thursday, me and LipstickLoverr went to London by to see Miranda Sings from YouTube at Leicester Square Theatre! If you're not familiar, Miranda Sings is an Internet character created by Colleen Ballinger who is an actress and singer also on YouTube. Miranda is displayed as a "comically talentless, egotistical and quirky character" singing badly to popular chart songs and discussing current events that she often misunderstands. Miranda also gives tutorials and advice on how to avoid her "haters".

One of Miranda's music videos that brought me and LipstickLoverr as friends 3 years ago was California Gurls, a video made by Miranda and her mum in their back garden, and we have watched her ever since. She puts out a specific type of humour that isn't to everyones taste but the topics she covers and videos she creates appeal to us and she's now one of the most well-known youtubers!

The venue was quite small and we had third row seats which were amazingly close and we were quite surprised to find we were the only ones who had gone the whole hog and dressed like miranda with an ugly shirt buttoned up to the neck and red lipstick all the way round our mouths - which was quite hysterical!

The show started with Joshua, Colleen's boyfriend, introducing the show and inviting members of the audience to come onstage and do their best Miranda impressions which was hilarious and some people had really got their impersonations down to a tee! Colleen then took the stage and performed two songs before making the transformation into Miranda, tucking her dress into red sweatpants and a blue striped shirt and pinning her hair back before applying the infamous red lips.

I don't want to give too much away incase you're planning to see the show however I will highly recommend it and say that it is full of hilarity and music covers and "acts" that are worth going to see! It was really fun to see Miranda and Colleen performing live and getting the chance to interact with her as an audience (I was very pleased to record a video of Miranda singing one of my favourite songs, Lady Gaga's Born This Way and have her look directly into the camera of my iPad whilst singing heheh!)

If you're a Mirfanda, definitely don't miss the tour!

After our own transformations!

Gorgeous Colleen!

Huns Holiday

Having just returned from a glorious 7 day vacay with 2 of my best friends, I thought a quick post with some hun filled photos and deets would be cute! Being my first girly holiday away, it was all very new and exciting being able to sort and book everything out between the 3 of us and be proper "grownups" with responsibilities, kudos to Jade our keeper of tickets and vouchers!

We stayed at Annaliza Apartments Hotel in Ipsos, Corfu which was in a really good location, stones throw away from the beach and bars/shops/supermarket. It was also a half hour bus ride away from the main Corfu town which we went to on a couple of nights to see the shops and have dinner.

The beach nearest to our hotel was pebbly/shingle however we decided this was preferred to sand anyway as we're all fussy with getting it all over us! The sea was perfectly clear and there was plenty of snorkelling and laughing at each other for a good half hour due to piggy noses and attractive fringes when we'd pulled the masks over our faces! We were also conveniently close to the "pontoon" (pier? boardwalk? floating walkway?) which we could run down and jump off heheh! One day of the week we also treated ourself to a ride on the crazy ufo, technically an inflatable sofa pulled along by a boat, and were christened "lil bums" by the conveniently pervy man who decided he would be the photographer during our venture!

The so-called nightlife in Ipsos was what we were looking for as we could have cocktails after our dinner without being hassled by other people too much and had a selection of bars and restaurants to go in each night. We were more than pleased to have lots of free drinks too, some resulting stories will be kept between me and my gals, and everyone was friendly and helpful!

The 2nd to last day we were able to go on an Ionian Cruise which took us to Paxos and Antipaxos, the two smaller islands just off Corfu. Aside from getting up super early the day was so hot and we saw lots of pretty sights from the Blue Caves to the cute little town on the harbour of Paxos!

I love love loved my pre-university getaway and I can't wait for hun holidays to come..
